I love the cool richness of a good whipped cream. Pair it with fruit, chocolate, ice cream... a spoon. I adore it plain, or with just a bit of vanilla. But lately I’ve been getting more creative with flavors. It’s such a delicious blank canvas! Flavor it any way you’d like, to suit any dessert. Which is just what I did.
Here I’ll tell you about the three tasty flavor combinations I whipped up. This was so fun.
What you’ll need:
• Whipping cream – Whipped up, it will double it’s volume. I used a half cup for each flavor combo I made, so ingredient measurements are per half cup of cream.
• 3 tablespoons orange juice
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 tablespoons Kahlua
• 1/2 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
• 1 tablespoon honey
• 1/4 teaspoon almond flavoring
Cream is easier to whip, the colder it is. So a quick tip: chill the bowl and beaters before you get started. A metal bowl works best, if you have one. And whip on medium-medium/high speed. A moderate speed makes it easier to avoid over-whipping it into stiff, grainy peaks.
Note: As long as you haven’t accidentally churned it into butter (no joke!) you can rescue over-whipped cream by hand-whisking a couple tablespoons of fresh cream into it. Not to worry.
With each flavor combination, whip the cream into soft peaks, add your flavoring gradually as you continue to whip until you have the stiffness you like.
Dont’t forget to add the almond, not pictured here. This is my husband’s favorite :).
They turned out beautifully.
Each of them was so good, but I think the orange was my favorite. I’m a fan of how cream and citrus highlight each other. I thought it was lovely on raspberries, while Thad preferred the honey almond with his.
And I put the kahlua cocoa in my hot chocolate. Oh yum.
I’d love to hear about the flavors you whip up! Get creative and tell me about it :).
