Quick tip: Sweet Stirrings

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow! And whether you’re sharing it with someone or having some me time, why not relax with a yummy drink at the end of the day? Just take a few minutes to be good to yourself and unwind.

Try out this quick tip to give that drink some love too...

Skip the spoon and treat yourself to a gourmet lollipop stirrer. Yes, ma’am. I stopped into a small, locally owned sweets shop in downtown Portland called Quin and picked up lemon and caramel pops for myself.

What you’ll need:

• You're favorite drink

• A delicious lollipop

I chose apple cider for my caramel, and a Tom Collins for my lemon. Not only was it super fun to stir my drink with a lollipop ('cause I’m like twelve years old when it comes to how much I like candy), but it really gave those drinks an extra kick of flavor. So check out my ideas for drink/pop combos just below, or start brainstorming to come up with your own.

Drink Ideas

• Apple cider with a spicy cinnamon lollipop (or caramel). I’d highly recommend Sees Candy; their lollipops are ridiculous.

• Earl gray tea with a lavender honey lollipop from Etsy's TheGroovyBaker

• Moscow Mule with a chili lime lollipop from MOUTH

2 ounces vodka

1 ounce lime juice

1 full ginger beer

Lime wedge for garnish

• Mojito with a mint tea-stirring spoon lollipop from DoTDo Candy – these lollipops are shaped like teaspoons :). Pretty cute.

2 tsp sugar

6-8 mint leaves

Club soda

1 lime, halved

2 ounces light rum

Prep: Mix sugar, mint leaves, and a little club soda and muddle to release the mintiness. Squeeze in juice from both halves of the lime, add the rum a little more soda, and garnish with a sprig of mint.

Extra tidbit: When researching lollipops, I stumbled across this treat: www.candyblog.net. It’s a candy blog, about EVERY kind of candy, indexed by brand, country, and kind (including ethically sourced sweets). I really enjoyed poking around on it. The writing is intelligent and personable, and the photos are fantastic. Definitely check it out.
